There are several types of autism spectrum disorders. Some autism types were previously listed as individual disorders. Today, these are a group of conditions that are now all called autism spectrum disorder, or ASD.
One type of ASD is Asperger Syndrome, which people also refer to as Asperger’s Syndrome. Some other included disorders are autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder (CDD), and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDDNOS). Although these formerly individual syndromes and disorders were previously classified separately, they are now grouped together as ASD. However, there is nothing wrong with still calling them by their specific former terms to identify them. Some sources previously included Rett’s syndrome, which is not included today.

Rhett Syndrome
Rhett Syndrome is a condition in which children exhibit some symptoms similar to the symptoms of autism. It used to be included in the group of autism spectrum disorders but is not included today. The reason is that researchers now know that a genetic mutation causes it.
